SENTRI Explained: Applications, Fees and Vehicle Planning
If you regularly enter the United States from Mexico, SENTRI is a program worth understanding before you start an application. The main questions are different from those of an occasional airport traveler: which crossing will you use, who travels with you and which vehicle will you drive?
What SENTRI is designed to do
SENTRI provides expedited processing for preapproved, low-risk travelers entering the United States through designated vehicle and pedestrian lanes along the southwest border. The official CBP SENTRI FAQ explains the program and its relationship with Global Entry.
SENTRI is a government membership program. Paying a private business for appointment alerts is a separate purchase and does not give you SENTRI membership.
What does an application cost?
CBP lists a $120 adult application fee for applications under the fee structure introduced October 1, 2024. Its FAQ explains that a minor’s fee exemption requires the relevant parent or guardian TTP application ID or membership number. Follow the current official application prompts rather than assuming every child automatically qualifies.
Keep government fees separate from optional third-party charges when comparing costs. Check the official TTP website for the program and application terms before submitting payment.
Membership and vehicle registration are separate checks
CBP’s Trusted Traveler Programs handbook states that vehicles used to enter the United States in SENTRI lanes must be registered in the program. Do not assume an approved personal membership automatically covers a replacement or borrowed vehicle. Use current TTP instructions to check your vehicle details.
If you are already a member but cannot see vehicle-management options, CBP explains that your TTP profile may need your PASSID or membership number. Follow its troubleshooting guidance rather than creating a duplicate application.
A practical planning checklist
- Identify your usual border crossing and check its official lane information.
- Review the program requirements for every person who will travel with you.
- Check the registration status of the exact vehicle you intend to use.
- Read your official account’s application and interview instructions.
- Keep appointment confirmation details available when planning your journey.
Does SENTRI include airport benefits?
CBP says U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents in SENTRI may receive Global Entry benefits after the required fingerprints and document information are on file. Mexican nationals in SENTRI must apply for Global Entry through TTP. Check the official FAQ above for the rule that applies to you.
Where to get appointment help
Appointment Hopper’s current website describes Global Entry alerts. If you need SENTRI monitoring, ask about program coverage before buying. An appointment alert, where available, is information about an opening; it is not membership approval or a confirmed reservation.
Researched September 20, 2026 using the official sources linked above. Program rules, fees and interview arrangements can change; confirm the latest instructions in your official account. Appointment Hopper is a private appointment-alert service, not affiliated with CBP, DHS, CBSA or any government agency. Appointment availability, booking and approval are not guaranteed.
